Data Security: Protecting your chart
OrgChartcomes with a password security feature which can be applied to individual charts (see below). After a chart’s security is set, a prompt will appear requiring the correct password to be entered before the chart will open.
- To access the Document Security screen – go to the Main Menu and click on Tools > Protect Project.
- To set the password – enter an identical password in both the Enter password and Confirm password fields.
- To access a protected chart – enter the correct password when the OrgChart security prompt appears (see below):
To complete this screen, choose one of the following options:
OK – enters the password.
- If the password is correct – the chart will open.
- If the password is incorrect – an Incorrect Password notification will be displayed. (Remember, passwords are case sensitive so double– check that you are entering your code correctly.)
- Cancel – closes the security prompt without opening the locked chart.
Data Security: Additional considerations
The security considerations for the OrgChart application are as follows:
OrgChart files are only readable using the OrgChart application.
- Data is behind your firewall: OrgChart data resides on a workstation or portable computer behind your firewall. No data is stored outside your company firewall.
- Security layers. There are no security layers or roles. Any user of the application with the necessary password permission can see all data in the chart file.
- SharePoint security. Since OrgChart offers the option to save its files to SharePoint folders you can use SharePoint’s security scheme to protect files from unauthorized users.
