Overview
OfficeWork Software provides solutions that help companies align their workforce with business goals. In that context the OrgChart application helps a company with workforce planning and organizational charting. Much more than a drawing tool, OrgChart is a workforce management workbench designed to help visualize and shape a company’s talent pool for optimum business performance.
About OrgChart
Versions: The OrgChart application comes in two models: Pro and Platinum.
- Professional (or Pro) is primarily focused on creating professional organization charts and easily sharing them with others.
- Platinum contains all of the capabilities of Pro and includes power features for workforce planning, problem-solving and what-if scenarios.
Environment: The program is a workstation, Windows application, running on Windows 7- Windows 10. OrgChart also integrates with Office365, OneDrive and SharePoint.
Installation: The program is installed on individual computers. A Citrix Server version is available.
Program size: 60 MB.
Version history: The program (version 1.0) was originally created in 2005 and has been continuously developed since. Version 11.0 was released in May of 2018. A new release has been created about every 18 months. Version 1.0 debuted with basic chart drawing and data automation. As time progressed – and as customers demanded – the program was increasingly modified to support the more rigorous demands of larger customers (companies of 500 to 25000 employees) with greater automation and workforce management requirements.
Automation: OrgChart provides manual, drag-and-drop chart creation. And it also provides chart creation from a variety of data sources, the most common of which are Excel, SQL and Active Directory. Not only can charts be created automatically from these data sources, but the charts can be continuously kept up-to-date through OrgChart’s Resync function. Customers love the application’s ability to keep their charts current according to a scheduled frequency.
Configurable Limits: OrgChart pricing varies based upon the features and number of records that need to be imported. This is known as the ‘chart limit.’ There is one .exe, and based on a specially configured license key, features as well as chart limit can be controlled. To date the largest chart limit we have sold is for a government organization with 100,000 employees. Although the program can be configured for this limit the largest number of records that the program can reasonably handle is about 40,000.
Licensing: The program is licensed as one install per computer. The license management system implemented is Nalpeiron. With this system keys can be tracked to a company, a specific machine or a specific user. Features and chart limit can be configured from our administrative portal. User program access can be granted or denied by adjusting permissions at any time.
Online Access: Activation / licensing and checks for program updates are automatic and require an internet connection. In the event the customer does not have an internet connection, or prohibits internet access to our server there are off-line management options. Apart from these two functions there is no need for an internet connection.
Security: The security considerations for the OrgChart application are as follows:
OrgChart files are only readable using the OrgChart application.
- Data is behind customer firewall: OrgChart data resides on a workstation or portable computer behind your firewall. No data is stored outside your company firewall.
- Chart files are protected. OrgChart files can be password protected to prevent others with the OrgChart application from viewing or changing data.
- Security layers. There are no security layers or roles. Any user of the application with the necessary password permission can see all data in the chart file.
- SharePoint security. Since OrgChart offers the option to save its files to SharePoint folders the customer can use SharePoint’s security scheme to protect files from unauthorized users.
Trial Version: The OrgChart program is available as a 14-day free trial, during which time the chart pages contain a large ‘Created by OrgChart’ watermark. When the program is purchased and activated the watermark disappears. This licensing system costs a flat $500 per month.
