Grouping: Vertical grouping techniques
The basics of chart arrangement, including grouping, have been discussed elsewhere in OrgChart Platinum help documentation. This document will delve deeper into the concept of grouping chart boxes: the various methods by which it can be accomplished, and the various arrangements which are available to users.
Vertical groupings are useful for economizing the space on your chart pages. To group boxes vertically, follow these steps:
1. First, click and drag to select the boxes which you would like to group vertically.

2. Right-click inside any one of the selected boxes, select Vertical Group, and click on Create New Group.

3. These employees will now be grouped vertically.

4. The group can be resized by selecting the entire group and then clicking and dragging at strategic points.

5. The grouping can be undone by right-clicking within the group, selecting Vertical Group and clicking on Dismiss Group.

6. Another grouping method is to select the manager of the employees you wish to group together, select Vertical Group, and then click on Group by…

7. For the purposes of this example, we will group employees by department. Make sure to select the “Do not use Multi-record boxes” checkbox.

8. Employees will now be put into vertical groupings based on their department.

9. Use the Show counter only option if you wish to see a vertical grouping with a number instead of a complete series of boxes with all the employee information.

10. In our example, employees have been grouped by location, but only the number of employees in that group will be shown.

11. Users can group boxes by any criteria they wish. In the example below, we will group employees by status.

12. The two open positions have been grouped together under a common name.
