Query

OrgChart Platinum’s query function allows users to narrow the scope of their charts, displaying only one department or branch of the chart at a time. This document will demonstrate the procedure for using the query function to create org charts which include only specific teams or departments.

Query: Using the query function

To use the query function in an existing chart, follow these steps:

1. Select a supervisor’s box by left-clicking on it. For this example, we will select Karina Seinfeld.

2. Click on the Data tab and select Query.

3. Here, we will see various branches of the chart.

NOTE: The query function deals with branches of the chart, not individuals. When you select a number from the “Emp ID” field, you are selecting a branch of the chart, not the manager in charge of it.

Query: Branch selection

4. Select the desired branch.

NOTE: The branches are listed from top to bottom, which corresponds to left and right in the chart in the main viewing area.

5. Select “All” under the Show Supervisors drop-down list.

Query: Level selection

6. Select the number of levels to draw (or select Show All Levels). Ensure that the New Chart radio button is selected.

7. If you would like to show every employee in the specific department or team you’re querying, uncheck the Show only employees with subordinates box. Click OK.

Query: Results

8. A chart will be generated which shows Karina, her team, and her immediate supervisor.
